Yew Tree Door, Stow-on-the-Wold
Nestled in the medieval market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, the north door of St Edward’s Church is framed by ancient yew trees and famed as the “Tolkien Door”. Local legend claims Tolkien visited here and drew inspiration for the Doors of Durin at Moria, and whether or not that story is true, the mossy archway and twisted roots feel like a portal straight into Middle-earth.
